Seaside rendez-vous

Share

Yesterday the weather cooled down a bit. The sea was agitated and there was no beach. I was at home the whole day doing nothing. It is funny when you are in vacation, even if you don’t do anything, the days pass quickly. In the evening I decided to go for a walk with my mum, dad and aunt despite that they walk in slow-motion! We went towards the area where all the restaurants and coffee shops are. This area has been renovated quite a bit in the recent years. It is nothing like what I remember from my “youth”! But something are the same. Coffee shops are the main meeting and dating places in Iran. It is quite hard to have a bad rendez-vous, if your view is a beautiful sunset at the seaside!

Our group was sitting there and watching the coquette young women and handsome guys occupying the tables. Apparently in this place there was no sign of “moral police” (a term used by BBC!). People still respected the minimal dress code but the atmosphere was quite relaxed. I compare the current situation with at least 7 years ago, when we could never dream of waring small scarves, sandals and bright color manteaus only down to our butt.

My favorite junk food in the summer is bbq-ed corn. In every street corner, you can find a guy with his little grill and salted water bucket selling bbq-ed corn. Once the corn is grilled, it is put in the big bucket before eating.

On the way back to home, we stopped by our fruit seller. I absolutely wanted to pay a visit to my past. When Melanie, my old friend, and I were kids, our parents would sent us buy fruits and veggies almost everyday. In the store, there was a guy about 17-18 helping people carry their bags. As kids do, we would giggle on every single thing this poor guy did. We even put a name on him, Machi (we by mistake thought his name was Manouchehr). All our families would refer to him as Machi from then on. Machi stayed in that store and later he bought it. Now he is a successful store owner and he told me that his daughter is also studying Physics at the university. He was shy when I took this picture of him.
